A Showcase of Talent and Dedication
Gabrielino High School recently opened its doors to the community on March 28, 2024 for a vibrant and inspiring event - the Open House and 9th Annual Art Expo! This eagerly anticipated event highlighted the incredible talent and dedication of students and staff in the school's Visual and Performing Arts programs. From visual art to music, theater, debate, and dance, the evening was a celebration of creativity and skill.
The Visual Art Gallery, curated by teachers Terri Hopper and Emmett Suess, offered a stunning display of student artwork, showcasing a diverse range of styles and mediums. Visitors were treated to an array of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and more, demonstrating the depth of talent nurtured within the school's art department.
Music filled the air as the school's choir, under the direction of Robert Cartwright, delivered captivating performances that showcased their vocal prowess and musicality. Meanwhile, the Orchestra, Concert Band, and Jazz Band, led by Melissa Romero, enthralled the audience with their precision and passion, demonstrating the results of dedicated practice and teamwork.
The Speech and Debate program, led by coach Derek Yuill, took center stage, engaging visitors in lively performances and discussions about the program's achievements and upcoming competitions. With the State Tournament on the horizon, students shared their excitement and preparedness for the competition, highlighting the invaluable skills they've developed through participation in the program.
Drama enthusiasts were treated to a sneak peek of the school's upcoming musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," as the talented cast brought a scene to life under the guidance of theater director Bobby Hundley. The energy and enthusiasm of the performers left no doubt that audiences are in for a memorable theatrical experience.
Meanwhile, the Dance program, led by Victoria Gallegos, dazzled spectators with a captivating set from their upcoming Dance Showcase. With choreography that blended grace, athleticism, and expression, the dancers showcased the culmination of months of hard work and dedication.
Behind the scenes, the newly established CTE pathway in Theatre Production Tech, led by teacher Ruben Arteaga, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of all performances. From lighting and sound to set design and stage management, these students demonstrated their technical prowess and commitment to excellence, providing essential support to their peers in the spotlight.
