About the Music Immersion Experience (MIE)
What Is MIE
The Music Immersion Experience (MIE) at Roosevelt Elementary School is a tuition-free music and enrichment program that provides every student with access to high-quality music education and opportunities for personal growth.
Our Vision
Since its founding in 2015, MIE has carried a bold vision: to use music as a tool to help students succeed academically, develop essential life skills, and expand their understanding of what is possible for their future. Inspired by innovative programs such as El Sistema and informed by research on music, brain development, and student achievement, MIE continues to serve as an innovative music intervention program while providing a comprehensive music and enrichment experience for the entire Roosevelt Elementary community.
Students Experience
At MIE, our goal is to provide an experience that not only introduces students to the world of music but also nurtures their growth as well-rounded individuals. Guided by our mission, “Using Music to Make People,” students engage in daily music instruction, performance opportunities, enrichment experiences, and meaningful relationships with caring adults. Through this holistic approach, students develop essential skills aligned with the Portrait of a Graduate, including problem-solving, effective communication, creativity, collaboration, empathy, and perseverance.
Learning Through Music
Research shows that music education stimulates brain development, strengthens memory, improves focus, and enhances cognitive skills that support overall academic success. At Roosevelt, music is not taught in isolation; MIE intentionally integrates academic concepts, social-emotional learning, and STEAM-based thinking into instruction, helping students make meaningful connections between music and the world around them. Through these experiences, students learn to think critically, approach challenges creatively, and apply their learning in new and meaningful contexts beyond the music classroom.
Program Growth
Today, MIE serves more than 300 Roosevelt students annually through a variety of program experiences. Students explore instruments, develop musicianship, collaborate with peers, build leadership skills, and discover new ways to express themselves creatively. As the program enters its second decade, MIE continues to evolve, expanding opportunities that support students’ growth as musicians, learners, and future leaders.
Our Belief
MIE believes every child, regardless of background, deserves access to transformative educational opportunities. Through music, students build discipline, resilience, teamwork, and confidence while discovering strengths they may not have known they possessed. More importantly, they begin to see possibilities for themselves that may have once felt out of reach.
Preparing For The Future
Whether students pursue careers in music, science, technology, engineering, education, business, healthcare, or any other field, the skills developed through MIE prepare them for success in school, career, and life. Music opens doors, broadens perspectives, and inspires students to dream bigger about their future.
Our Purpose
At its core, MIE is about more than learning an instrument or singing a song. It is about helping young people discover their voice, build meaningful connections, dream bigger, and realize their potential. By using music as a vehicle for learning and growth, MIE empowers students to become thoughtful, engaged, and capable individuals prepared to make a positive impact on their communities and the world around them.
