Program Overview

How MIE Works

The Music Immersion Experience (MIE) provides daily music instruction and enrichment opportunities for all TK–5 students at Roosevelt Elementary School. Students engage in structured music learning that builds foundational skills, creativity, and collaboration.

Fundamentals

All students participate in the MIE Fundamentals program, which provides daily music instruction as part of the school day. Students develop foundational skills in rhythm, melody, listening, and musicianship through structured, hands-on learning experiences.

Electives

Students in grades 1–5 have the opportunity to participate in MIE Electives, which expand their musical experiences beyond the Fundamentals program. Electives allow students to explore different instruments, genres, and styles in a more focused setting.

Student Experiences & Opportunities

MIE provides students with opportunities to participate in advanced ensembles and performance groups that build collaboration, musicianship, and performance skills. These experiences allow students to apply their learning in real ensemble settings and share their music with the school community.

Students may also participate in structured enrichment opportunities such as clubs and study hall that support learning, collaboration, and academic success.

Daily Schedule

Students participate in a structured after-school program that varies by grade level and day type. Across the week, students engage in a combination of Fundamentals, Electives, Clubs, and Enrichment experiences, along with scheduled snack and dismissal times. On Wednesdays and minimum days, students follow an adjusted schedule that includes earlier instruction blocks and additional enrichment opportunities such as Jamboree and expanded club time.

Program Philosophy

MIE is built on the belief that all students deserve access to high-quality music education that supports both artistic growth and overall development. Through consistent, engaging instruction, students build skills that extend beyond music and support success in school and life.
